My name is IDRIS ABDUL-ZAHIR. I am an nationally known spiritual leader, civic innovator and bridge- builder rooted in service and equity. My work is most driven by transformative intentional thinking and critical strategic planning and execution.
My belief is that a successful life comes from me being bold and passionate to share the lessons, tools, and skills that I learned through the success of my work with others to create and cultivate the life of their dreams. It all starts with a conversation......a mindset, a thought, idea, a dream.

Idris Abdul-Zahir is a nationally recognized civic innovator and technology executive with a deep commitment to public service, equity, and systems transformation. He currently serves as Deputy Chief Information Officer for one of the nation’s largest municipal governments, where he leads enterprise IT operations across 27 departments including communications infrastructure, service management, and strategic support services. His work drives digital transformation initiatives that improve resident-facing services, close equity gaps and deliver millions in recurring savings through automation and modernization. Idris was previously Chief of Staff for a major public agency, where he spearheaded innovation strategy, digital equity programs and cross- agency modernization efforts.
His strategic leadership has helped position technology not just as a tool, but as a vehicle for advancement, accessibility and smarter government . In 2024, Idris was selected as a USA Leader by the Obama Foundation, joining a national cohort of cross-sector changemakers working to strengthen democracy and build inclusive civic systems. Through this program, he explores the intersection of technology, storytelling, and public trust to advance civic innovation and expand opportunity for marginalized communities.
He was also appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro to the Governor’s Advisory Commission for African American Affairs, where he advises on statewide policy focused on economic development and public engagement for Black Pennsylvanians. A Philadelphia native, Idris has earned a reputation as a thoughtful bridge-builder between government, community, and culture. His creative work includes the web series Ask A Muslim, a public education initiative confronting Islamophobia through the voices of Black American Muslims and contributions to Muslim Voices of Philadelphia, a documentary history project preserving the city’s diverse faith legacy. Idris resides in Mt. Airy with his wife and two daughters and remains committed to designing systems that work for everyone; powered by integrity, inclusion, and innovation.
